BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect or suspects and vehicles involved in several incidents of impersonating a police officer. The past two days, there have been three incidents where an unknown suspect or suspects have impersonated police officers by conducting routine traffic stops in southwest Bakersfield. In each incident, the suspect or suspects were behind the victims and activated red/blue lights making the victims believe they were being pulled over by police officers.
In one incident, the suspect or suspects yelled at the driver and then drove away, police said.In the other two incidents, the drivers who were pulled over were ordered to remove portions of their clothing and then the suspect or suspects drove away, police said. The suspect or suspects never approached the vehicles or physically contacted the drivers, police said. All three drivers who were pulled over were males of Eastern Indian descent. The color, make and model of the suspect's vehicle are unknown. But the vehicle is believed to have front-side spotlights. The red/blue lights have been displayed from inside the vehicle and not on top.In two of the incidents, the driver of the suspect vehicle has been described only as a male.If you are pulled over by an unmarked police vehicle, obey all lawful instructions. If you have reason to doubt the identity of the individual, ask for the officer’s name and agency. You may also contact the nearest law enforcement agency by calling 911 to verify the officer’ s identity.Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Bakersfield police at 661-327-7111.
