Dick Cheney Visits Bakersfield

POSTED: 1:48 p.m. PST March 21, 2005

Vice President Dick Cheney made a tour stop in Bakersfield on March 21, bringing with him the future of the Bush Administration's proposed Social Security reform plan.

The Vice-President's airplane, Air Force Two, touched down at Meadows Field Airport at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21.

Once on the ground, the Vice-Presidential motorcade made its way through the streets of Bakersfield to Cal State Bakersfield's Icardo Center for a Social Security town hall meeting.

The Vice-President fielded questions from the assembled crowd on various topics surrounding the Bush Administration's proposed Social Security changes.

Mr. Cheney was joined on stage by Bakersfield congressman Bill Thomas.

But the heavy security didn't stop protesters from gathering.

Outside the building, protesters of the proposed Social Security reform lined up with picket signs.

And inside the building, several young men disrupted part of the presentation and were escorted outside by Secret Service members.

Mr. Cheney finished the town hall meeting, and departed Bakersfield on Air Force Two, flying to another city to take the President's message on reform.
