Creams May Help Ease Effects Of Eczema

Two Creams Are Available By Prescription

There is new hope for children with the itchy skin disorder called eczema.

Two new remedies on the market are getting positive reviews from young eczema patients who failed other treatments.

Elidel cream and Protopic gel are now available by prescription.

The treatments are helping children who can't stop itching long enough to play, study or get a good night's sleep.

"They help control the eczema more effectively that any other medicines we've had previous to this time," eczema researcher Dr. Adelaide Herbert said.

"We go to the park now and go play. Before all we did was stay home. All David would do is lay in his bed itching," Maria Callejas said about her son.

Elidel cream and Protopic gel are steroid-free so they can be used for longer periods of time. Researchers said that they don't cause thinning of the skin like steroid creams.
