Joan Siglin's tiny thrift store in has become something of a gathering place.
A small army of volunteers congregates at the shop to help Siglin put together one of her many community outreach projects for babies whose mothers are in need.
"Receiving blankets and diapers -- their faces all light up," Siglin says. "They're just elated."
From the hand-crocheted bonnets and blankets to booties and bottles, these creations and the concepts come from the heart.
Frieda Miller says that it's Siglin's life experiences that have developed that compassion.
"She's been through all this herself," Miller says. "She knows what other people need."
Many items for the layettes are donated and some are bought with money raised by the store.
It's the same process Siglin uses to help people in other desperate situations, like those burned out of their homes or who need a food basket at Christmas.
"I do it probably because I feel like, if they could do it for me, I could do it for other people," Siglin says.
