BAKERSFIELD, 8:49 a.m. PST March 27, 2001 -- Like most on Bakersfield's Wood Street, the home of Joyce and Victor Ramos is much lower than the street, so it needs protection from drainage problems.

But a recent city project went a little too far. City crews built a virtual wall between the home and the street, creating a 2 foot drop from the curb to the ground.

"I don't object to curbs and gutters and sidewalks, I just like to see it done without having a mountain in front of my house," Joyce Ramos told Your 23.

And we listened. Your 23 made a call to a city project manager to report the problem, and within minutes crews were taking down the wall.

The city is now planning to install a storm drain. The error cost the city $5000.
