U.F.W. Endorses Florez In Senate Race
Florez Running Against Fellow Democrat Sarah Reyes
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., 8:55 p.m. PST March 30, 2001 -- The United Farm Worker's Union has a strong political presence locally, and they have endorsed a democratic assemblyman -- Dean Florez, of Shafter, in next year's senate race.
Florez is running against fellow democrat Sarah Reyes for the senate seat that is now held by the retiring Jim Costa of Fresno.
The endorsement was announced Thursday after Reyes coordinated an emotional tribute to Cesar Chavez on the assembly floor, Your 23 reported.
"Today is Cesar Chavez holiday and for workers to have the endorsement from the farm workers who work in our farms everyday says a lot and I'm proud to have received the endorsement," Florez said.
Florez said that with him both farm workers and farmers have a representative working for them.
